Week 2 Heartbreak Defeat

So heading into Monday night I was just over 17 points behind. My #1 draft pick Brian Westbrook was scheduled to play. I figured that is why I paid him the big bucks with my number one pick, to win games like this. He finished with just over 16 points and I lost by 1. He had 96 yards rushing. Just 4 more and I would have received a 5 point bonus for passing 100 yards. That is the problem with Westbrook. He is such a dual threat, he rarely goes over 100 yards with either running or receiving, but routinely passes 150 yards total. That was a win I needed. All of my thinking went wrong. I should have started LenDale White vs the Colts instead of Thomas Jones against the stingy Ravens D. Who would have thought the Bengals D was that bad that they would give up 51 points to the mighty Browns and Derek Anderson. If I didn't even play a defense I would have been better off because the Bengals got me negative 3 points. Well, I can't dwell on the past I have to look forward to righting the ship in week three before I fall too far behind.

Week 2

I scoured the waiver wire looking for a Defense this week. While the Titans D did great for me last week, they play the Colts this week. Not the best week to start that D. The Bengals D is available and they are playing the lowly Browns this week. The Browns traded QB Charlie Frye and look to be starting Derek Anderson this week. I think the Bengals may feast on this QB. My matchup for this week is as follows....

QB MATT HASSELBECK VS DREW BREES
RB BRIAN WESTBROOK VS FRED TAYLOR
RB THOMAS JONES VS RON DAYNE
FLEX TATUM BELL VS DARRELL JACKSON
WR REGGIE WAYNE VS MARVIN HARRISON
WR DEION BRANCH VS ANQUAN BOLDIN
TE RANDY MCMICHAEL VS TONY GONZALEX
K OLINDO MARE VS JEFF WILKINS
DEF BENGALS VS BRONCOS

I should win the matchup you would think, but who knows....

Lost in Week One

To no surprise I lost my first matchup of the season 122 to 91. My team had a decent effort, but only Reggie Wayne put up what I would call a great game. In order to win in fantasy, more often than not you need at least two of your players to have great games. That didn't happen for me and I didn't win. On the bright side, at least none of my players are hurt. Owners who drafter Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Steve McNair, Chad Pennington or who own the receivers of those players could be in trouble. I have a tough decision to make this week. The Raven's D looked quite impressive against a great Bengals O. Thomas Jones my #2 pick plays against the Ravens D this week and most likely will be with a backup quarterback. If you saw how well Rudi Johnson ran the ball with Carson Palmer at QB then you can understand why I may bench Jones this week. Problem is who do I start in his place. LenDale White or Mark Clayton. Not exactly the best options. I will have to ponder this for the next few days.....

Week One

It was with great optimism that I began this 2007 season. However, I am facing the team our whole league fears playing because L.T. is on there. The Chargers faced the intimidating Bears D and they held him to under 100 total yards. But, LT threw a 30 yeard TD pass and ran for another. As I write this, Plaxico Burress just caught a 60 yard TD pass from Eli Manning. Good start for Eli and the Giants. My team didn't do too badly but with Travis Henry running wild and Tom Brady having 3 Tds I got whooped pretty good. Thang God I went out on my boat instead of watching my fantasy team suck! Saturday I almost stayed home to watch my beloved Wolverines get pummeled by Oregon. But, I went out on the water in 85 degrees and sun. By the time I got back to the marina, (who graduated from Penn State) decided to torment me for the second straight week. At least the Lions won today(even if it was against the Raiders)

Week One Match Up

QB MATT HASSELBECK VS TOM BRADY
RB BRIAN WESTBROOK VS LADAINIAN TOMLINSON
RB THOMAS JONES VS TRAVIS HENRY
RB BRANDON JACKSON VS TATUM BELL
WR REGGIE WAYNE VS LARRY FITZGERALD
WR DEION BRANCH VS CHRIS CHAMBERS
TE RANDY MCMICHAEL VS BEN WATSON
K OLINDO MARE VS DAVID AKERS
D TENNESSEE VS PITTSBURGH

I am a 15 point underdog in this matchup. My hardest decision was choosing Deion Branch vs Mark Clayton. Both WR have good matchups. Starting Branch came down to the fact that I am unsure if Clayton is healed from his preseason ankle injury and Branch is the only proven target for Matt Hasselbeck. I have my fingers crossed.

Fantasy Team 2007

Well it is a day before the first NFL game of 2007. I have assembled my team for the season. It is the same format as last year. Having pick 13 of a 14 team league allowed me little leeway for error.
My squad is as follows
QB Matt Hasselbeck
RB Brian Westbrook
RB Thomas Jones
RB Tatum Bell
WR Reggie Wayne
WR Deion Branch
TE Randy McMichael
K Olindo Mare
D Tennessee Titans

Reserves include...
QB Alex Smith, RB Lyndale White, WR Mark Clayton, WR Troy Williamson

I think my squad has some good potential. I think this may be the year Wayne outshines Harrison for the Colts. Tatum Bell has grabbed the starting RB job in Detroit due to the injury of Kevin Jones. I picked McMichael real late in the draft and I think he may have a better year with the Rams and Bulger than in Miami.
